Overseas Investment Office PDF Print E-mail

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) assesses applications from overseas persons, wishing to invest in sensitive New Zealand assets, and who are neither New Zealand citizens or resident in New Zealand.

The OIO administers the New Zealand government's investment policies as per the Overseas Investment Act of 2005.

You may need to apply to the OIO for consent, for example, if you wish to acquire business assets worth more than $100 million or sensitive land, such as properties over 5 hectares of non-residential land.

Access the OIO on the Land Information New Zealand website (below) and then clicking on the Overseas Investment Office button.

There is a wealth of information including how to interpret the Act; how to make applications and past decisions made by the OIO.
